Praba Koomsom, DNP, MSN GPPH, RN

Dr. Praba Koomson is a highly motivated and talented doctoral-prepared healthcare leader with experience across the care continuum including inpatient, ambulatory, and community/home-based care, in varied settings. Praba has proven expertise in the implementation of strategic, operational, and innovative approaches to care delivery in diverse backgrounds including Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Praba specializes in population health, practice research, and interprofessional collaborative practice, with a focus on delivering care that seamlessly matches the needs of individuals and communities. Praba speaks nationally and internationally on a range of health and social care issues and is passionate about how care delivery aligns with the choices, values, and preferences of individuals and communities. She has been grant-funded for her work with different organizations. The opportunity to function at the academic/practice interface fuels Praba’s passion for innovation development and mentoring colleagues and her students for success.

Praba is also an educator driven to inspire the pursuit of academic and personal excellence by creating challenging and engaging learning environments to promote life-long practitioners and scholars. 

Expert in the development and implementation of educational technology tools and applications to support diverse teaching/learning settings, she has developed innovative academic programs both at the graduate and doctoral levels. Praba has a special interest in models of care that address the health and well-being of the chronically/seriously ill population, with special emphasis on shared decision-making. In honor of her mother, Praba set up The HanVick Foundation, an NGO that partners with faith communities in Ghana to provide spiritual, clinical care, and caregiver support/training to their homebound elders. Praba loves to travel with her family and learn about the cultures of others.

Praba has a Doctor of Nursing Practice from California State University (CSU) San Jose/Fresno State, a post-master certificate as a nurse educator, an MSc in General Practice & Primary Health from the University of Westminster UK, a Bachelor of Nursing with psychology from the University of Ghana Legon, and an executive leadership certificate from Cornell University.
